We provide an online information and referral service for insurance products relevant to self-managed superannuation funds (SMSFs). This Privacy Policy explains how 1300 Group Pty Ltd handles personal information in connection with the SMSF Insurance website, enquiries, communications and referral activities.
We are committed to handling personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) and other applicable laws.
2. Scope of this policy and external insurance platforms
This policy applies to personal information handled by 1300 Group Pty Ltd through:
- smsfinsurance.com.au and pages on that domain;
- the SMSF Insurance contact form and email communications;
- our marketing, analytics, referral and administration activities; and
- any other interaction in which we refer you to this policy.
When you select a quote or application link for life, TPD or income protection insurance, you may leave our website and be taken to agismsf.com.au, a platform operated by Australian Group Insurances Pty Ltd ABN 97 140 572 434, AFSL 379565 (AGI). AGI administers the SMSF Master Insurance Plan in partnership with AIA Australia Limited ABN 79 004 837 861, AFSL 230043 (AIA Australia), the insurer.
Personal and sensitive information that you enter on AGI’s platform, including identity, health, financial, occupation, lifestyle and underwriting information, is collected and handled by AGI, AIA Australia and their service providers under their own privacy notices. This policy does not govern their handling of that information.
We may receive limited referral or administrative information from AGI, AIA Australia or another product provider where you have authorised this, or where it is otherwise permitted by law. This could include the source of a referral, the fact that you commenced an application, or general application status. We do not ordinarily receive the full health or underwriting information that you submit on an external application platform.
For other insurance products, we may refer you to another insurer, licensee, administrator or broker identified at the time. That organisation’s privacy policy will apply to information you provide directly to it.

Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect and hold:
- Identity and contact information, such as your name, email address, telephone number or postal address if you provide it.
- Enquiry and communication information, including the contents of messages, correspondence and records of our responses.
- SMSF and insurance-related information that you choose to provide, such as your role as a trustee or member, the type of cover that interests you and general information about an existing arrangement.
- Referral and administration information, such as referral source, product interest and limited quote or application status information received from a provider where authorised or permitted.
- Website and device information, such as IP address, approximate location derived from an IP address, browser and device type, operating system, pages viewed, links selected, referring page, date and time of access, advertising identifiers and cookie or pixel data.
- Marketing preferences, including subscription and opt-out records.
- Privacy, complaint and compliance information, including access or correction requests and evidence used to verify identity.
Health and medical information is sensitive information. We only collect sensitive information where it is reasonably necessary for our activities and you consent, or where collection is otherwise authorised by law.
Please do not include medical information, identity documents, tax file numbers, bank or payment details, passwords or other highly sensitive information in the general website contact form. If that information is required for an insurance application, provide it only through the secure application process identified by the relevant insurer or administrator.
4. How we collect personal information
We may collect personal information:
- directly from you through the contact form, email or other communications;

- from AGI, AIA Australia, another product provider or referral partner where you have authorised the exchange or it is otherwise permitted by law;
- from a person acting for you, such as an authorised representative; and
- from publicly available sources where it is lawful and appropriate to do so.
You may browse our website without identifying yourself. You may also use a pseudonym for a general enquiry where practicable. We may need your correct identity to complete a particular request, verify authority, facilitate a referral or meet a legal obligation.
If you give us personal information about another person, you should have their authority to do so and make them aware of this policy.
5. Why we collect, hold, use and disclose personal information
We may handle personal information to:
- respond to enquiries and communicate with you;
- provide general information about SMSF insurance products and services;
- facilitate a quote, application or referral that you request;

6. Who we may disclose personal information to
Where reasonably necessary for the purposes above, we may disclose personal information to:
- AGI, AIA Australia or another insurer, financial services licensee, product administrator or broker when you request a quote, application or referral;
- companies that provide website hosting, email, contact-form delivery, customer management, analytics, advertising, cybersecurity, data storage, backup or other technology services;

Our website uses cookies, pixels, tags, local storage and similar technologies. These technologies may collect website and device information and are used to:

8. Direct marketing
We may use your contact details to send you information about products or services that may be relevant to you where you have consented, where you would reasonably expect us to do so, or where otherwise permitted by law.
Submitting a general enquiry does not by itself mean that you have agreed to receive unrelated marketing. We do not use sensitive information for direct marketing without consent.
You may opt out at any time by using the unsubscribe facility in a message or emailing [email protected].
We will process an opt-out request within a reasonable period and will not charge you for opting out. We may still send non-marketing communications that are necessary to answer an enquiry, administer a requested service or meet a legal obligation.
9. Overseas handling of personal information
Some of our technology, analytics, security and advertising providers operate global infrastructure. Website and device information may be disclosed to or processed by recipients outside Australia, including in the United States of America, and in other countries in which those providers or their subcontractors operate.
Because global provider locations and routing may change, it may not be practicable to identify every country in this policy. Where the Privacy Act requires it, we take reasonable steps before disclosing personal information overseas to require appropriate handling of that information.
AGI, AIA Australia and other external product providers have their own overseas-disclosure practices. Please review the privacy notice shown on the relevant quote or application platform.
10. Security and retention
We take reasonable technical, organisational and physical measures to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
These measures may include access controls, security monitoring, reputable service providers, staff confidentiality requirements and secure transmission or storage where appropriate.
No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. If you believe information you have sent us is at risk, please contact us promptly.
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably required for the purpose for which it was collected, for legitimate business needs and to meet legal, regulatory, accounting, insurance and dispute-resolution requirements.
When information is no longer required, we take reasonable steps to destroy it or de-identify it, unless retention is required or authorised by law.
11. Access and correction
You may ask to access personal information we hold about you or request that inaccurate, out-of-date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading information be corrected.
Send your request to the Privacy Officer at [email protected] with the subject line Privacy request. Please describe the information or correction requested. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
We will respond within a reasonable period. There is no fee to make a request. If permitted by law, we may charge a reasonable cost for providing access, but we will tell you before doing so.
In limited circumstances, the law may allow us to refuse access or correction. If that occurs, we will provide written reasons where required and explain available complaint options.
Requests about information held by AGI, AIA Australia or another external provider should be directed to that organisation using the contact details in its privacy policy.
