How a TPD claim flows through an SMSF

When you make a TPD claim on cover held inside your SMSF, AIA Australia assesses your claim against the TPD definition that applies to your cover. If they’re satisfied you meet the definition, typically the Standard Occupation definition for working members, the lump sum is paid to the trustee of your SMSF.

From there, the trustee deals with the benefit in line with super law, the SMSF’s trust deed, and the conditions of release. The trustee can pay the benefit out to you as a lump sum (or other allowed form), provided you meet a relevant condition of release.
